LODGE CULTURE AND PRINCIPLES

PURPOSE

This document defines the shared cultural expectations and operating principles for all lodges operating under the Charity Helpers or Civic Helpers frameworks.

These principles exist to support cooperation, prevent abuse, and keep lodges functional, open, and durable over time.

--------------------------------------------------

FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLES

Lodges are built on the following core principles:

- Voluntary participation
- Local autonomy
- Functional cooperation
- Clear boundaries
- Mutual respect
- Minimal hierarchy

No principle exists to create identity, loyalty, or ideological alignment.

--------------------------------------------------

NO HERO FOUNDERS

Lodges do not recognize hero founders, permanent leaders, or personality-based authority.

No individual:
- owns a lodge
- controls a lodge by virtue of wealth or tenure
- gains special authority through donation
- serves as an irreplaceable figure

Roles exist to support function, not status.

--------------------------------------------------

NO DONOR OR FINANCIAL CONTROL

Financial contribution does not grant authority, priority, or decision-making power.

Lodges:
- do not operate on a pay-to-play basis
- do not sell influence
- do not reward donors with control

Funding supports work. It does not create ownership.

--------------------------------------------------

NO REQUIRED SYMBOLISM OR RITUAL

Lodges do not require:
- rituals
- oaths
- symbols
- uniforms
- secrecy practices
- initiations

Groups may develop informal customs, but no symbolic system is required, enforced, or standardized.

--------------------------------------------------

FUNCTION OVER IDENTITY

Lodges exist to do work, not to create identity.

Participants are not expected to:
- adopt shared beliefs
- use shared language
- signal loyalty
- prioritize lodge identity over personal values

If a practice interferes with function, it does not belong in the lodge.

--------------------------------------------------

TRANSPARENCY AND DIGNITY

Lodges are expected to operate with basic transparency and respect.

This includes:
- clear communication
- respectful disagreement
- prompt handling of harmful behavior
- avoidance of intimidation or coercion

Dignity applies to participation and separation alike.

--------------------------------------------------

THIS IS NOT A SECRET SOCIETY

Lodges are not secret organizations.

They:
- do not conceal their existence
- do not require secrecy from members
- do not operate hidden chains of authority

Privacy may be used for logistics or safety, but secrecy is not a cultural requirement.

--------------------------------------------------

CULTURAL DRIFT AND COURSE CORRECTION

Lodges may change over time.

When practices drift away from these principles:
- correction is expected
- mediation may be used
- separation may occur if compatibility is lost

Affiliation is conditional on continued alignment with these principles.

--------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY

Lodge culture exists to support cooperation, not control.

These principles are intentionally simple so that:
- they can be understood quickly
- they can be applied locally
- they can endure change
