PUBLISHING AND PRINT-ON-DEMAND POLICY

PURPOSE

This document defines how lodges may create, print, and distribute books and written materials.
Its purpose is to protect quality, ensure compliance, and allow local use without reputational risk.

SCOPE OF MATERIALS

This policy applies to:
- books
- manuals
- guides
- curricula
- study materials
- handbooks
- printed educational content

Both physical and digital formats are included.

IN-HOUSE PUBLISHING

Lodges may create and distribute materials internally using:
- local printing
- digital distribution
- small-scale duplication

In-house publishing is permitted when:
- materials are for local use
- no public sales occur
- branding is accurate and limited

EXTERNAL AND PRINT-ON-DEMAND SERVICES

Use of:
- commercial printers
- print-on-demand platforms
- publishing services
- online marketplaces

requires approval or coordination when materials:
- are distributed publicly
- are sold or monetized
- use shared names or branding
- represent official programs

BRANDING AND ATTRIBUTION

Published materials must:
- accurately represent their source
- avoid implying official endorsement when none exists
- distinguish local lodge materials from central publications

Attribution standards may be provided separately.

SALES AND COST RECOVERY

- distributed at cost
- provided freely
- sold only when permitted by entity rules

Sales may not:
- generate personal profit
- create donor control
- violate entity-specific restrictions

ISBN AND OWNERSHIP

ISBN usage, copyright, and ownership:
- must be handled consistently
- may be coordinated centrally when applicable
- may remain local for internal-only materials
