Carrito

An Open, Modular Community Vehicle Framework

Carrito is an open documentation and standards framework for building small, modular vehicles using locally available skills, tools, and materials.

Rather than selling a single factory-built product, Carrito provides a structured system that allows independent builders, community shops, and certified service providers to create vehicles that fit local needs, budgets, and regulations.

Carrito is designed to encourage:

  • Mechanical literacy

  • Repairability

  • Local fabrication

  • Community economic activity

  • Open experimentation within defined classes

Final build outcomes are determined by the agreements made between customers and their chosen builders.

What Carrito Is

  • An open vehicle documentation platform

  • A modular design system centered around a “sacred power volume”

  • A shared language for classifying builds (SG, LG, DLG)

  • A community of independent builders and shops

  • A pathway for local manufacturing and workforce development

What Carrito Is Not

  • A mass-produced consumer vehicle

  • A single factory product

  • A guarantee of street legality or performance

  • A replacement for professional judgment or local regulations

Build Classes

Carrito supports multiple build classes, including:

  • Small Grid (SG) – baseline, compliance-oriented configurations

  • Large Grid (LG) – advanced, builder-driven configurations

  • Deluxe Large Grid (DLG) – experimental and research configurations

Each class is clearly documented so builders and customers understand scope, limitations, and responsibilities.

Participation in the directory is optional. Independent builders may also build using open specifications without certification.

Community and Economic Development

Carrito is hosted as part of a charitable initiative focused on:

  • Workforce development

  • Local fabrication access

  • Community economic resilience

Funds generated through memberships or related programs may support documentation, education, or charitable economic development grants that help establish fabrication capacity in underserved areas.

Participation does not confer ownership, investment rights, or profit guarantees.

Transparency

Carrito documentation, standards, and community governance are publicly available. Certification indicates process participation and documentation alignment, not product endorsement or regulatory approval.
